Preventing Your Mobile Phone From Being Stolen

Many people now own a mobile phone, and if it’s stolen, it can be costly. With smart phone technology, devices are often worth quite a bit of money, and we store all kinds of personal data on them, some of which might be irreplaceable. Here are some tips to help prevent mobile phone theft:

  1. Don’t leave your phone on a table in a busy pub or restaurant. It’s so easy for people to walk past and quickly pick it up.
  2. Be careful when using it in public. Don’t walk and type – somebody could easily snatch it out of your hand. If you’re talking on the phone in public, be very mindful of where you are and stay out of large crowds. Position yourself so that nobody can sneak up behind you.
  3. When your phone is in your pocket, use a clip to attach it to a belt or your clothing. There are specialist clips on the market for a very reasonable price.
  4. Always be mindful of where your phone is. If you’re somewhere busy, keep an eye on it and ensure that you know it’s safe.
  5. Be careful not to leave your phone anywhere obvious. At home, don’t leave it in full view of a window.
  6. Make sure your device is insured. In the worst case scenario, if it is stolen, it will be much easier and much cheaper to get it replaced. Insurance is available from your network provider, from your home insurer or from another company which specialises in mobile phone insurance.
